CZECHDESIGN.CZ, o.s. is preparing an exhibition for coming Designblok with Laufen bathroom gallery for the second time in a row. For this year it is generative art „Manifesto – GenArt“.
With its theme the Manifesto – GenArt is very unique. Not many people in our country apply generative art and it is not even in awareness of public. The point of this specialization is that the artist is not finishing his work, but the final creator is software, that is created by the artist. The software is processing information and work with them. This is how the product develops a product that is not only offering us an esthetic perception, but also new possibilities of working with information and a new point of view on whatever you want, starting with human’s feeling through graphics and architecture and ending with musical piece or sociology.
Trustee of the exhibition Jan Kremláček says: "The purpose of this exhibition is to offer new point of view on a principle of process of creation through generative art.
"
One of the possible advantages of generative art is visualization of data in real time. Such attribute is giving a completely different time-making context to the final product.
CZECHDESIGN.CZ, o.s. addressed few well-known people from the world of generative art. Among these belongs Jonathan Harris and Sepandar Kamvar with their project „We feel fine“, observing feeling of people all over the world due to their blogs, Leonardo Solaas and his Dreamlines, creating picture of dreams, Marius Watz with generative paintings, Casey Reas, Martin Wattenberg with project The shape of song and a Czech representative Federico Diaz and Jan Kremláček.
Generative art will find its use in architecture and design in future, because it can offer us much more than paper and a pencil or a graphic program. Before it happens, we have few generative pioneers for you.
Project of Jonathan Harrise and Sepandar Kamvar doesn’t only focus on positive feelings, but also on the negative ones. It shows loneliness and sadness as well as happiness. Program is monitoring publicly accessible blogs in real time and picks sentences relating to human’s feelings. The computer doesn’t understand its content, but gives them to us in real time together with basic information such as: age of the author, place, time and the current weather overview of the country of origin of the blog. It even assigns pictures from Flicker to those feelings.
Leonardo Solaas will bring software that visualizes your desires based on words that you give him.
On the other side Marius Watz doesn’t care about specific dreams, he actually creates his own dream paintings. More accurately – his program creates generated visualizations.
If you thing of your favorite music, you usually recall the melody and the rhythm. In Martin Wattenberg´s interest was also repeating tones and tact. Thanks to him we can see symmetrical patterns or and empty monitor with true master and chaotic lines leading from nowhere to anywhere in some pop music.
Casey B. Reas, one of GenArt´s personage and a co-founder of Processing is trying to show people what is this field actually about. And he has some ingenious toys to help him.
